Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Reducing carbon emissions

... and our own carbon footprint, on the face of it, seems a massive task, but is it? Each one of us has the power to halt the effects of global warming with very little effort on a day to day basis.

It is just thinking about our daily life in a green way. Is it really necessary to take the car to post a letter? Perhaps, its time to insulate the roof, at long last. And what about all those electrical appliances, that are always plugged in. Electricity is one of the biggest producers of carbon emissions on the planet. If it’s not being used – TURN IT OFF.

We have drawn up a small list of ideas to help you reduce your carbon footprint. You will also save money and be fitter and healthier in the process.

downwithcarbon.org 10 TOP TIPS

  1. Turn off all electrical appliances when not in use.
  2. If you have time, leave the car and take a walk.

  1. If you must use the car, make sure your tyres are pumped up correctly. For Smarter Driving Tips go to www.dft.gov.uk/actonco2
  2. Turn down the central heating a couple of clicks – You won’t notice the difference.
  3. Fit energy saving light bulbs and save money.
  4. Use public transport as often as you can. It is often quicker and definitely less expensive.
  5. Before you purchase expensive items such as cars and holidays, ask what the supplier companies are doing to reduce their company carbon foot print. Are they investing in Carbon Offsets, for instance.
  6. Take a run to the gym. It saves time with the warm up.
  7. Buy locally produced food. More of our food is now flown in from far away places, creating huge CO2 emissions.
  8. Plan your day in a Green way. One trip instead of nine, saves energy and time.

These are just few hints to start you thinking about all the ways that you can contribute to halting global warming.
